| Set in rolling countryside on the Normandy Mayenne border, La Maison Neuve offers a “get away from it all” holiday for those wanting a countryside retreat that is yet close enough to all those facilities that make for a relaxing holiday. The gites started out as a working farm in around 1850 and originally consisted of the farmhouse, stable and cow sheds and a large barn all in a line (known as a longère). The farmhouse and sheds have been converted into 3 holiday gites giving varied accommodation from just one couple to a family of up to 7 people. The owners live on site in the converted barn and are constantly on hand to provide help and information if required without being intrusive. The nearest village is 2km from us and has a boulangerie providing a range of bread, croissants and other delights. There is also a small boucherie with a selection of good quality meat and a village post office. Local supermarkets are a short drive away and include a good sized Leclerc at La Ferté Macé as well as other well known though smaller supermarkets nearby. The owners can let you know opening times. There are many restaurants in the area with a wide range of menus and prices varying from that special occasion to fantastic value 4 course lunches for 10.50 Euros each (including wine!). Many tourist attractions are within reasonable driving distance though if you don’t want to venture too far, there are some excellent walks on the doorstep and bicycles can be provided for leisurely cycling along the extremely quiet country roads. The house and gites are set in 3.5 acres of French countryside and you are welcome to use our field and orchard for sporting activities such as football, badminton, boules etc. There is a swimming pool in the gite garden for those warm sunny days when you need a dip to cool down.
